Fortune Chinese on South Street has become our preferred neighborhood spot for Chinese American takeout, and it consistently delivers exactly what you want from a place like this. The food is reliable and flavorful, without being overly greasy or salty, and the portions are generous and filling. We usually order a combination of Mongolian beef, shrimp egg rolls, kung pao chicken, General Tso’s chicken, shrimp fried rice, and white rice, and everything is consistently good. It hits that classic takeout balance: satisfying, well-prepared, and easy to return to regularly. The service stands out as well. The man who runs the counter is kind and welcoming, always smiling when you come in, which we really appreciate. He’s also generous with the mustard packets and soy sauce at the front, a small touch that doesn’t go unnoticed. The space is very clean, and while there are tables for dining in, most people seem to opt for takeout. Fortune Chinese is a convenient and dependable local option for us, and one we return to often. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable Chinese American takeout meal. One minor suggestion: the menu on the online ordering portal might need a slight adjustment. General Tso’s chicken, which is excellent, is listed in the combo and meal sections but not under the main chicken category, which has been a bit perplexing for me in the past.
