We were walking out of the Mercado del Puerto looking for a place to eat the local signature dish, chivito, since all the restaurants inside the Mercado were packed. A handsome young man kindly greeted us and invited us to dine in his restaurant. We took him up on it, and I’m so glad we did. The chivito plate and the dessert I asked our waiter to recommend were out of this world— well, out of my US world anyway. Our waiter was a charming and funny middle aged man who gamely climbed the stairs between the kitchen and air conditioned upstairs room over and over again. Not the fastest service in the world, but I’ve come to expect that when traveling outside of the US. highly recommend! It also happens to be only a few steps from the cruise terminal, so it’s great if you are in Montevideo on a cruise. ¡Qué rico!
