Title: Disappointing Experience The family recently dined at this Okonomiyaki Fugetsu eager to try for the first time their okonomiyaki with our visitors from Canada, but unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable. While I had high hopes for a delicious meal for a high rated teppan okonomiyaki, the unhygienic conditions overshadowed any potential flavor. First and foremost, the preparation and cooking of the okonomiyaki took place right on the teppan counter, which is expected in this type of restaurant. However, what I did not expect was the lack of cleanliness in the process. As group of noisy and drunk customers sat around the counter, it was disheartening to witness the casual conversations and boisterous laughter happening just inches away from the food that is to be served to us on the box tables. I couldn’t help but notice the saliva showering onto the grill as patrons laughed and chatted, completely oblivious to the fact that their excitement was contaminating the meal being prepared in front of them. The cook/owner, while seemingly skilled, appeared unfazed by this unhygienic environment. It was unsettling to see him continue cooking without any apparent concern for cleanliness. I found myself losing my appetite as I watched the okonomiyaki being flipped and served, knowing that it had been subjected to such an unsanitary atmosphere. As for the food itself, while it had potential, the experience left a sour taste in my mouth—quite literally. The flavors were overshadowed by our discomfort with the preparation process. We left feeling uneasy, disgusted and questioning the restaurant’s attention to hygiene standards. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Fugetsu based on our experience. While the concept of enjoying okonomiyaki cooked on the counter teppan is appealing, the lack of cleanliness and the disregard for food safety made it a regrettable outing. I hope they take these concerns seriously and improve their practices, as I would love to enjoy a good okonomiyaki in a clean and safe environment someday with the family.
