AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I’ve been to San Carlo (King Street, Manchester), food there was pretty nice but definitely not for this Fumo by San Carlo. The pasta was okay, but definitely not worth the price. I paid £20 for a slow-cooked beef rib pasta, and the portion of meat was shockingly small — just three tiny bones with almost no meat on them. The pizza was a bit better than the pasta, but not much toppings as well as you can see. I also saw another review mentioning that the lobster dish came almost completely empty, with just the shell and no meat — and after my experience, I completely believe it. Honestly, I could go to any budget chain restaurant and get a much better meat-to-carb ratio than this. Both main courses felt like they were just full of carbs with barely any meat. I’m giving 3 stars for the atmosphere as there weren’t many people in the restaurant — and it’s pretty obvious why. That said, it could be a decent place to chat if you don’t mind dishes with a pitifully small amount of meat. Strongly not recommended. I won’t be coming back. Fumo certainly looked luxurious, and the décor stunning, so our expectations were high. Sadly, the avocado starter and garlic bread with cheese were both surprisingly bland and tasteless. For an Italian restaurant, you'd hope they'd at least nail the garlic bread. Never mind the lack of flavour in the starters though, the bill certainly made up for it, because it was very tasty indeed! At around £132 for two, it certainly wasn't cheap. And watch out: they automatically add the "Optional" service charge to the bill without first checking that you're happy with it. That said, the lasagna was superb and the steak was in-cred-ible.
