I’m here as a service provider for a wedding, and was absolutely shocked by the size, and that they had a huge farm for kids to run around and enjoy. The wedding was beautiful, they have a huge hall to accommodate all the guests, and the music.

I volunteered at Gut Boltenhof with my wife in 2025 after being contacted directly by the owner, Jan-Uwe Riest, who had previously been removed from the Worldpackers platform due to complaints from other volunteers. Unfortunately, our experience confirmed those same issues: we were asked to work more than 40 hours per week without payment or contract, even though we had been promised a 30-hour volunteer schedule and the possibility of a paid position later. None of those promises were kept. We felt taken advantage of and exploited, and finally decided to leave after one month, even though we were supposed to stay for two. I’m sharing this so that other volunteers or travelers are aware and can avoid facing similar treatment. (Visited September–October 2025)
