We found a place to eat with my friends before a concert. Made a reservation on open table. When we got there, they did not see our reservation at all and were told we’d have to be put on the waiting list. We waited 35 minutes and got in. We were served water right off the bat and our order was taken. We ordered our fried pickles appetizer and the Gate Smash Burgers (both with fried pickles added) immediately. Once our order was placed we finished our waters not long after (they’re smaller glasses) we weren’t able to get them refilled for another at least 10 minutes. When we ordered our burgers, I ordered it with no tomato, fried pickles (paid extra for) and a side salad with ranch dressing. My partner ordered the same burger with no cheese, fried pickles, and a side salad also with ranch. When the food arrived, my burger came with 2 pickles on it (crazy to pay for 2 singular slices of pickle), and my salad came with an orange kind of vinaigrette dressing. My partner got her burger and it came with cheese on it and also had a salad with the same vinaigrette. Unfortunately, because we couldn’t get in with our reservation and had to wait, we didn’t have time to inform our waitress and have it fixed. We just ate our food and left. The food itself wasn’t bad but everything that happened combined made the experience not ideal. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Meal type: Dinner

Giselle provided excellent service for our party of 13 and kudos to the Chef and all those who assisted us. The service was seriously top notch. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food and beverages. Too much variety to list but various burgers, a few chicken caesar wraps, a few salmon dishes, soup. Bread pudding was not extra sweet or soggy - very tasty. Very delicious chocolate chip cookie with ice cream shareable dessert. My rating is only based on the food and drink I personally had. The Gatehouse ended up being a pretty average experience for me overall, which is why I’d put it at about a 3-star visit. It was not terrible by any means, but it also did not feel like a place I would go out of my way to visit for a night out. The food was basically typical bar food, nothing special or memorable about any of the dishes we tried. Everything was edible and came out hot enough, but there was not much in the way of seasoning or distinctive flavors that would make anything stand out. If you are looking for something quick and familiar, it gets the job done, but it does not feel like a spot for anyone seeking a more interesting meal. The drinks were a letdown and probably the biggest disappointment of the night. Cocktails tasted watered down and a bit flat, like they were missing both punch and balance. For a place you might consider for happy hour or a casual night drink, it just did not deliver the kind of quality you would hope for. Overall, the whole vibe felt much more like a daytime lunch spot for people working in the Navy Yard than a destination for a night out. As a convenient place to grab a bite with coworkers or a quick drink after work, it makes sense, but it does not have the energy or food quality you would expect for an evening out. In the end, I would say Gatehouse is fine for what it is: a serviceable lunch place with standard bar food and basic drinks. But if you are looking for a special dinner, a date night, or a place to really enjoy great food and drinks, there are plenty of better options, and I probably would not choose this one again for that kind of outing.
