It will be a pity if you don’t try Yobuko squid when you are in Karatsu. The squid is transparent in sashimi. The texture of squid sashimi served in other areas is soft and sticky. But the squid sashimi served in Yobuko and Karatsu is crispy instead. The taste is stronger. After you finish the sashimi, you can ask the restaurant to use the remaining squid to make tempura which is even crispier. The tempura at the end is a kind of comfort food. No one can resist it. Now, let’s talk about the restaurant. It is typical a restaurant for this famous squid. Everyone comes here for the squid. This can be good and bad at the same time. The food is to the standard. But at the same time there will be some air of tourists’ place lingering. The ika shumai (squid dumpling) on the side is too soft for me as a Hongkonger. We love “siumai” more crispy. We call this texture “彈牙”. But anyway the whole lunch is good and I love it. Price per person: ¥4,000–5,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
