Gin is exactly what we were looking for after arriving into Kii Tanabe around 5:30pm as the last light was fading from the sky. We didn't want or need much; we were getting up to catch the bus to the hike at 6am the next morning; we'd stocked up on too much takeaway sushi downstairs at Kyoto Station before our afternoon train ride over; we just wanted something simple and delicious. We wandered the dark downtown alleys for awhile, peeking behind curtains or through windows. There were plenty of great local izakaya options but honestly (I know this is gonna peg this as another American in Japan review), we were feeling a little fished out. This place looked so warm and welcoming, we ducked in and grabbed the last two spots at the counter. Everything was perfect ... Such a great variety of skewer options, from chicken to pork to vegetables. I also had the roughly strained peach liqueur, which was incredible... AND WE FINISHED IT OFF WITH THE HOME-MADE ICE CREAM!!!!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
