Now for the interesting part. I believe the new owners are about to get a costly lesson on the price elasticity of demand. Quite recently they almost doubled the price of some popular menu items. My sister got her usual burger yesterday and was blown away to learn the price had increased from $4.50 to $8.25, both include lettuce tomato and onion and nothing else. $8.25 for a burger and fries and possibly a coke sounds about right for what we’re talking about around these parts. The reason given was inflation. However, the recent CPI inflation rate was 4.9% yoy and is expected to fall significantly in 2Q ‘22. How can anyone possibly justify a 75% price hike given these figures? Now these are rinky-dink little burgers we’re talking about here. Same price as the 5-guys large burgers with 2 patties of high grade beef and crazy number of toppings. The answer my friends is, sadly, greed.
As Rouses Point is a rural town with moderate incomes, exorbitant price hikes such as these serve little other than to drive a dagger
in to the goodwill and customer loyalty built up over the years by prior management. It’s really a shame but its difficult to see them bleed hitherto loyal customers to more reasonably priced competitors. This is going to be a very painful lesson for the new owners as once we leave we rarely come back.
In summary, I’m irked by what I perceive as price gouging and consider it an affront to our largely working class community. I give it a one star only becasuse zero is not an option. My household is voting with our feet and taking our business elsewhere. I won’t be shocked if we are not the only ones.
