Great place for dinner. We managed to get a table after a 15 minute wait. Pretty warm inside with all the hot plates. Delicious food! Lemon white liquor drink was also a treat. A friend had told me I needed to find a vegan okonomiyaki and I’m SO happy I did. I arrived around 5:20 on a Saturday and waited about an hour to be seated, no big deal. The food was phenomenal. I had the soy meat okonomiyaki and plum wine (they even had vegan sauces!). I took the first bite and almot cried. So many flavors dancing across my tongue in a way I’ve never experienced. I sat and slowly ate, enjoying watching the kitchen prep food for others. Staff were so kind & helped me take what I couldn’t finish there to go :). Also bc other reviews mentioned- the okonomiyaki comes to you cooked. It’s ready to eat when they serve it (really, I asked)! ALSO- you do take your shoes off to eat here (some folks raw dogged it but I was grateful for socks :) ). Arigato gozaimasu!!! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Full vegan section of menu!! Dietary restrictions: Great for vegan!

Gion Tanto is a fantastic find for anyone looking for vegan options in Kyoto. We had the vegan okonomiyaki, and it was absolutely delicious—packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. It’s not always easy to find an authentic okonomiyaki spot that caters to vegans so well. The atmosphere is great, and we would love to go again. A must-visit in the Gion area!
