Stephanie Izard is a GENIUS. Girl and the Goat is a must-visit for those of you who love big name chefs and/or downright affordable, yummy food. (If you've never heard of Chef Stephanie Izard, she was a former winner of Top Chef!) I wasn't able to get a reservation the week I was visiting Chicago (so call at least 2-3 weeks in advance!) but decided to stop by as a walk-in customer anyway. For two people, the wait during dinner rush was 75 minutes. PASS. We opted to seat ourselves in the lounge area and order food from there. No wait is always a win-win for me~ We ordered: -Roasted Cauliflower (3.5/5): it was good but nothing special. Definitely use your money on more unique items. -Chickpea Fritter (4.5/5): quinoa tabbouleh, feta, and tahini vinaigrette. Oh my God. It was amazing. Good balance between tangy ingredients and more subtle accompaniments. I only wish the portion was a tad bit bigger. -Duck Tongues (5/5): my favorite dish! Also includes tuna and black bean poke, crispy wontons, and piri piri sauce. This dish is all about contrasting textures - crunchiness from the wontons and duck tongue and tenderness from the poke! -Crisp Braised Pork Shank (4/5): naan, squash-shiitake kimchi, and buttermilk dressing. Very tender and well made. I loved the kimchi and dressing, but overall expected a little more from the dish. Cauliflower excluded, the pork shank was the less "exciting" option compared to the fritter or duck tongue. Overall, I love G&tG!!! Highly recommend this place for visitors to Chicago ^_^
Not sure about the hype and the difficulty getting reservations. Ordered all the "favorite hits" off the menu as suggested by friends and Yelp. Everything was overly seasoned and salty. I prefer sister casual dining establishment, Little Goat to this place. I'm glad I got to go once but won't be returning in the near future.
My daughter took me here for my birthday and it was amazing! Just missed the dessert, it had an ingredient I am allergic to and even when I told them they forgot it. Anyways I loved the place and the dark lights.
