We arrived in Rijeka after 4 days of hitchhiking with basically no budget. We hadn’t slept properly for two nights and were completely exhausted. Some kind people gave us a little money so we could finally eat something, and we decided to “reward” ourselves with a nice meal. As a vegan, I was excited to try this place. I ordered a vegan salad and my boyfriend got the Desperado Bowl. While eating, we noticed that some of the arugula in my salad was already spoiled, and some basil looked unwashed. In my boyfriend’s bowl there was a piece of black, rotten avocado. It honestly made me sad to continue eating, especially considering that most of my salad consisted of that greens mix — and part of it was spoiled. We politely asked if we could get a refund for my salad and take the unfinished bowl with us. The waiter who served us was very kind and understanding, and he agreed to help us. Then his boss suddenly came out yelling, acting aggressively and throwing accusations at us. She told us to wait for a moment, but we ended up waiting quite a long time until she came back and demanded the refund money back. I regret not taking a photo, because I had even put the spoiled pieces aside on a napkin to show them. I feel sorry for the people who work with her. She also refused to give us the unfinished bowl and basically pointed us to the door. I really hope she didn’t take the money out of the waiter’s salary, because he was kind, professional, and not responsible for any of this.
