A little pricey for what you get.
We passed it up on our last trip cause it was PACKED. Well worth the wait. Hot Link, brisket, pastrami, pork rib, prime rib, and pork belly. Don't forget the sides: baked beans (okay), and Elote corn. Phenomenal! Oh, they have Malört... odd, I skipped it, this time...
I love the vibe here! From the outdoor dining area in the alley to the semi-industrial vibe of the interior, Green Street Smoked Meats knows how to pull off a memorable dinner experience. First thing to note is that there's a separate bar area and a line for the BBQ. It's perfectly acceptable to come through and head straight to the bar, grab a beer, and head outside to sit down in the alley for a fun time with friends. I believe the beers on tap don't rotate often (although I may be wrong about this; the Stiegl Radler has been on tap since at least May). The BBQ line heads off into the far corner of the shop. As you wait, you can watch (while salivating) the line cooks operate the smoker. The best item on the menu is by far the pork ribs. The meat falls off the bone easily, and the savoriness pairs wonderfully with a healthy dash of the spicy BBQ sauce and a swig of cold beer. The sliced brisket is also decent, a little on the dryer side, but not as dry those found in most BBQ joints. Give this dish a good swirl in the vinegar-based sauce, or add the side of broccoli to give it a little bit of moisture and acidity/sweetness. The spicy pickles aren't too bad either, but are not all that spicy unless you're eating a lot of them. Green Street Smoked Meats does a lot right. They are limited in variety, but provide great quality for their offerings. If you're visiting Chicago, drop by for a bit with a few friends - it may not be the absolute best BBQ you've ever tasted, but the experience is definitely one of the most memorable.
