Was sad to see that the Old Guard House Inn is now closed. My iPhone calendar reminded me today that on Aug. 28, 1954, my beautiful parents had their first date here. Mom often spoke fondly of this place. xxoo Mom and Dad.
The Guard House Inn is a Main Line institution. I have been coming here with my family since I was an adolescent. Albert the owner is warm and friendly and the staff are simply top tier. The lobster bisque is my favorite and the braised short rib special I tried the other night was tender and filled with flavor. I usually get the wienerschnitzel which is awesome. On a side note, I'm a bit nervous about the Union League purchase as I understand a fair amount of the staff will be leaving. However, I hope that is not the case and in addition pray the menu/decor stay the same.
Came here and I was in for a TREAT. The building is amazing especially if you know it's history. The building has been around since the 1700's and was vital for the Revolutionary War. The decor is on par and provides a the staff is amazing as well. They know the menu and tell the truth. The bar is cozy and provides a drink as well. My server was warm, informative and added to the experience. The amazing chef even came out to say some "hellos." My turkey was delicious. It was flavorful and had great texture. They also had an awesome desert menu. This is a great place to bring friends, family, older kids or to host a party.
