I can't remember the last time I had fried chicken that was this good. They make it to order so it takes a little longer. But it comes out hot and crunchy. The chicken itself is juicy, they must brine it or something. I also think their story is pretty great. Food: 5

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is my top 3 fried chicken place ever. I'm really happy they've opened a location in Oakland (before I'd get it when I visit the south and the closest one before the Oakland location is Crenshaw).They only have one flavor, spicy. With most southern fried chicken places when you order spicy, you can't even taste the heat. With Gus's you can definately taste the heat as if they marinated the chicken in Crystal hot sauce with other seasoning. The skin is perfectly deep fried to have a dark golden color, extra crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The meat itself is packed full of flavor, heat and hella juicy.The sides are all delicious and for the most part does not disappoint from what I've had. Greens were well seasoned and stewed. Baked beans are delicious, and I also love their fried okra and pickles.Like I always tell people, if there's slices of bread accompanying your BBQ or fried chicken, you know it's going to be legit. Gus's Fried Chicken is my favorite fried chicken spot in the East Bay for sure.
