A personal take from me for Hachi. While planning for this trip, I watched an episode of Gaia no Yoake and Hachi was mentioned. They spoke of the operations and how cooking the pasta was taking too much resources from the restaurant so they decided to outsource it. It provides the supplier a new avenue of income and work and also cut down the work at the restaurant, a win-win situation for both. So of course I had to patronise them! Hachi serves good Napolitan spaghetti, as with most Japanese western restaurants. It's almost encoded into the chef's DNA. We waited around half an hour after dropping off our luggage at the car rental and returned to queue. Our orders came as a flurry of sides, soups, salads, drinks and pasta. The ice cream soda menu is so pretty! Go for the standard Hamburg steak Napolitan or the Mix Plate if you are feeling famished or want to try everything. As Napolitan pasta goes, the food here is authentic and excellenté Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000

ordered the tomato shrimp pasta and the beef pasta. The taste and texture of the spaghetti were okay, but not really anything special. It was an average dish. The ingredients in one plate probably felt like around 350–500 yen worth of food, although of course there are preparation and operating costs too. The taste was very ordinary — not much different from something we could make at home. It was just a simple pasta dish. I’ve had Italian pasta before, and the texture was much better. The type of pasta they used here also felt different. It definitely wasn’t bad and tasted fine, but there wasn’t really a 2,500 yen experience on the plate. I wouldn’t really recommend it. It feels more like a normal Japanese restaurant trying to create an Italian atmosphere. Price per person: ¥4,000–5,000

The Hamburg dishes here are outstanding. This place is popular and it always has a queue. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and there are those that can speak English. Ambience is not perfect as it can get a bit squeezy. Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
