We stopped at Hadley’s in Whitby and I have to say, we were not disappointed! The cod was beautifully white, fresh and flaky, with batter that was crispy, golden and absolutely spot on. The chips were golden and fluffy on the inside — proper chips, not those sad little things that look like they’ve had a hard life! We even asked for scraps, and they came in a separate bowl. Now that’s service! I’m not saying we went overboard, but the scraps definitely didn’t get left behind. The service was excellent, the food was excellent and the value was excellent too. Everything was cooked beautifully and the staff were lovely. A proper fish and chip shop, serving proper fish and chips. We’ll definitely be back!

Was very grateful that they were able to provide gluten free fish and chips as it’s so difficult to find places that do this. Three of us had the traditional Yorkshire tea meal, which comes with fish, chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread and tea. Was yummy but I did have some undercooked chips and we did struggle to get some cutlery as when our food arrived there wasn’t any bought out and staff was not available to ask as they were too busy.
