This is the place!!! I’ve been to Vietnam many times, grew up around Vietnamese food in California, and have lived in NYC for over 15 years—so my standards for Vietnamese cuisine are high. This spot delivers. The restaurant is owned by the Nguyen couple, and Liem shared his journey of moving to Kenya and opening the restaurant after years of traveling the world as an Air France manager—a great story behind an even better meal. The food was excellent across the board. The beef pho was clean, fresh, and deeply flavorful—I didn’t even need lemon or hoisin. The Nem (crispy spring rolls) were perfectly crunchy with a tasty pork filling. The pork spare ribs were incredibly tender, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the rice Liem recommended. The toasted bread (ask about it!) was a standout, and the lemongrass lemonade was so refreshing I wanted another. Bottom line: If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese food in Kenya, this place will surprise you—in the best way. Highly recommended. Just go. I’ll definitely be back. Happy Tembo is at the 11th floor of the building, Jamii Towers. The parking space is ample. As someone used to Asian food, I was so happy when I saw the menu here. I got the spring rolls and the beef pho, and they were both spot on. The spring rolls were the fresh kind, not the deep-fried ones you usually find in Nairobi, which was a nice surprise. The dipping sauce was legit too. But the beef pho was the real star—it tasted just like what I've had in Vietnam and southern China. The broth was perfect, and it came with all the right stuff like onions, basil, and lime. Felt like I was back in Asia for a minute. I'll definitely be back and will bring friends.
