A SOMALIAN SURPRISE X BEST CHICKEN IN CARDIFF x Had the pleasure of visiting a local gem today: Haraf Cardiff (@harafcardiff), a traditional and authentic Somalian restaurant located in Grangetown, Cardiff. Bringing Somalian and East African flavors to the local community is something truly special. The interior is simple yet spacious, and at the right time of day, the room is filled with fragrant spices. Since it was my first time having Somalian food, the Chef/Owner (who was incredibly animated and energetic) put together a platter of his recommendations, and everything tasted phenomenal! The plate was an array of delicious foods, starting with a bed of fragrant, soft, and spiced rice-easily some of the best rice you'll find in Cardiff, with notes of bay leaves, cinnamon, and various other herbs. Paired with the rice was a rich and powerful potato curry, along with a huge, tender slab of lamb that pulled apart with ease, completely satisfying my lamb craving. But the star of the show was the Somalian chicken. "Packed with flavour" is an understatement. The best similarity would be jerk chicken, so if you like that, this is your place. The juicy interior soaked up the smoky, charred goodness, with a perfect crisp to the skin. When I say it's one of the best chickens I have ever had, I truly mean that. To wash it all down, I was given a hearty yet light beef soup -pure beef essence in liquid form. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Haraf to anyone who loves Somalian/East African cuisine or those who haven't tried this food before. It's an easygoing restaurant with lots to love, proving that simplicity can be an art form. - Haraf Cardiff, Grangetown, Cardiff The Somalian chicken is a must-try! * Price per person: £1–10 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
