What a great find, lovely English pub with good pub grub. Enough car parking, a bit off the beaten track but worth the trek up the hill from Glossop. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Steak Pie

Lovely country pub, very welcoming and clean, long cool gin drinks beautifully served with fruit . Food - looked good and the others in the party were happy with their hot food - I chose a chicken salad, and didn't realise it was a warm salad - the seasoned hot dressing was already on it, the "salad" veg was cut extremely small pieces, mushy, and difficult to eat with a knife and after a few attempts I put it on one side. The server asked why I didn't eat it I explained I had expected a cold salad , he told me that in 9 years in the restaurant business he had never served a "cold" salad because they are not offered in "good" restaurants ! . I was left feeling extremely humiliated and embarassed in front of the other guests . Maybe someone should explain to him that cold salads are summer salads , hot salads are winter salads , and July is actually summer . I will stick with my usual 5 star hotel lunches in future, they not only serve "cold salad" with cold prawns and smoked salmon which are delicious and you get to choose your own dressing, but they have never humiliated me either.

Came here on Easter Sunday for an impromptu late lunch.... expected it to be packed but luckily there were still some tables left outside... ordered drinks and food without any problems, cheese burger for me n Sunday roast for partner. Wow... the food was amazing!!! My burger especially was soooo delicious I wanted to go again the next day!!
I’ve been visiting the hare & hounds since the early 80s and ever since Steve (chef) left it’s been pretty hit n miss but it seems to have finally turned a corner. Definitely without a doubt be here lots over the summer months.... (hanging baskets could do with a sprucing up though!!) ????????????
