Check out how Harper Woolf looks inside

Harper Woolf is pretty near Swedish Gate (Zviedru Varti). This restaurant offers you to try tasty oysters, tartare and filet américain. The wine list is diverse, it can satisfy the needs of all guests. Visitors don't highly appreciate profiteroles and tea at Harper Woolf.

The gracious waitstaff works hard, stays positive and makes this place wonderful. If you want to enjoy spectacular service, you should go to this place. Many clients claim that prices are low. At this spot, people can enjoy the enjoyable atmosphere and good decor. This restaurant is ranked 4.4 within the Google grading system.

Me and my wife decided to try out "Riga Restaurant week" and chose "Harper Woolf". Oh, boy... First of all, if you don't know that it is located in the hotel, you will not find it from outside. Even when you go inside the hotel, you can't see any signs of the restaurant - I had to ask reception staff to make sure I was in the right place. It was a bit over noon when we had our reservation and unsurprisingly, we were the only customers at that time. We were sitted and after some time our waitress showed up. At first she asked, which language we want to speak - Latvian, English or Russian. I answered russian and... She continued speaking latvian. I speak all of these three languages, but why do you ask if you don't have intention/skills to speak the language you proposed? It was very off-putting. Since it was "Riga Restaurant week" you don't have a menu, but you do have a wine card. We were given 2 iPads and one of them was not working properly. Keep in my mind, we were still the only customers at the moment and our waitress didn't bother to find another tablet. It would not be a problem if she could guide us through non-alcoholic cocktails/wines, but she couldn't. While we were struggling with the tablets I have noticed that my сutlery was dirty... At first, waitress brought the chef's compliment. It was obviously taken from the fridge and was not fresh. I will not go very deep into the rest of the food - it was bland. Not a single time our waitress has come to us asking if we are good or need anything. Even when she brought deserts, she did not ask if wanted tea or coffee. So far, this was the worst service I have ever experienced in any restaurant or even a roadside cafe. Please don't bother with this restaurant - it is a waste of time and money. P.S. The interior is quite calming and pleasant. Price per person: €45–50 Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

Disappointing Experience at an overpriced, tourist-oriented restaurant

I had high hopes for celebrating a birthday here, but the experience was underwhelming from start to finish. The restaurant is clearly geared toward tourists, with inflated prices, average food, and poor service.

Reservation & Arrival
I booked a table in advance for a birthday celebration, but was not informed about ongoing renovations. Upon arrival, the lobby was under active construction—loud, messy, and uninviting. It was unclear whether the restaurant was even open. Inside, the dining area was empty and not separated from the noisy lobby. When I asked to be seated somewhere quieter, the waiter offered only the terrace, with no alternatives.
No one from the restaurant had reached out in advance to inform us or offer options.

Terrace Seating
The terrace was poorly arranged. A work van blocked the park view, the sunshade didn’t cover our group, and the tables were unstable—we had to use napkins to level them. Compared to other restaurants like Mio, the atmosphere lacked charm and thoughtful design.

Restroom Confusion
When I asked to wash my hands, the staff seemed unsure. Eventually, someone guided me till the place, but while I was using the sink, a cleaner began pouring water into a bucket beside me—an awkward and inconsiderate moment that reflected poor guest care.

Service
Service was inattentive and unprofessional. The waiter recited the menu without enthusiasm and made no effort to improve our experience. Despite being the only guests, he failed to clear the table properly and even placed new cutlery on top of used ones. When appetizers arrived, no individual plates were provided, making sharing uncomfortable.

Food
• Bread & Butter: Served frozen and inedible at first—we had to wait for it to thaw in the sun.
• Appetizers: Dutch croquettes (duck and tuna) were bland and lacked flavor (€17.50). The glazed beef tongue (€14.45) was overly sweet with little depth. Scallops were ordered but never served.
• Main Courses:
• Eggplant dish (€21) was overwhelmed by a thick batter, masking the vegetable’s flavor. In short, it was not eatable dish, however we are fans of eggplant.
• Grilled veal steak (€26) was well-cooked, but the accompanying meat was overdone and the sauce forgettable. • In the wild deer dish (€26), the mushrooms and sauce stood out more than the meat itself.
• Dessert: A nitrogen-cooled pastry set (€39) looked impressive but was disappointing—small portions, some pastries cut in half, and a honey cake that was difficult to eat due to its texture. Actually it consisted of 2 "honey cake", 4 small profiteroles and 2 pastries cutt into two pieces.

Summary
The food was mediocre, the service inattentive, and the atmosphere chaotic. Despite booking in advance, we were not warned about the renovation or offered alternatives.
The overall experience felt careless and overpriced. For €160, the birthday celebration was frustrating and disappointing.

There are far better options in the city—Ferma, Italissimo, Reviera, and Catch all offer superior food, service, and value. I do not recommend Harper Wolf and will not be returning.
