I rarely leave detailed negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough that I felt compelled to share it. The biggest issue was the service. We ordered the salmon sushi tasting, tempura udon, croquette, and yellowtail. After waiting about 20 minutes, only the sushi and udon arrived. We assumed the appetizers might take a little longer, so we didn’t think much of it at first. However, by the time we had nearly finished our meal, the appetizers still hadn’t arrived. We asked multiple times, and each time we were told, “It’s coming soon” or “They’re working on it.” After another 20 minutes of waiting, it became clear that the appetizers hadn’t even been prepared yet. At that point, we canceled them and left. What bothered me most wasn’t the delay itself, but being repeatedly told the food would arrive “any minute” when that clearly wasn’t the case. The food unfortunately didn’t make up for the service issues. The salmon sushi tasting was particularly disappointing. At $20 for five pieces, the portions were surprisingly small, and the presentation was poor. The fish looked poorly cut, with connective tissue visibly separating. Even worse, one piece had a strong chemical/disinfectant-like taste that was genuinely unpleasant. The tempura udon was forgettable. The broth lacked depth, and the tempura was oddly bland. The sweet potato tempura was so hard that it had the texture of a potato chip rather than freshly fried tempura. The most confusing item was the Nori Last Word cocktail. The menu description sounded interesting—gin, umeshu, lime, and nori—but the drink arrived looking cloudy, with floating seaweed flakes and a layer of oil on top. The flavor was just as strange as the presentation. Creative fusion can be great when executed well, but this combination simply didn’t work. In the end, we spent around $40 per person and left disappointed by both the food and the service. The restaurant has received a lot of positive attention online, which is why we decided to try it, but based on our experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50

Excellent food and lovely set. We had the miso cod and the min chirashi don that came with all the little dishes I love with Japanese breakfast - scallops, poached shrimp, fried crab claw, pickled octopus, seaweed, miso soup and veggies. Price per person: $100+ Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options: Happy roll is excellent.

Overall Impression- Soft Opening Overall, I see great potential in this restaurant and look forward to its future. The decor, tableware, and color scheme are beautifully coordinated, creating a harmonious and comfortable dining atmosphere. However, since the restaurant is still in its soft opening phase, there are a few critical areas that I hope management will address: 1. Mastery of Sushi Techniques. The sushi chefs clearly need more practice. While the fish used for the nigiri was incredibly fresh, the sushi rice (shari) was dry and hard. To make matters worse, the chef accidentally knocked over one of our nigiri pieces when serving it. Furthermore, we noticed the fancy rolls ordered by the neighboring table—the rice looked messy, and the rolls were sliced very unevenly. I am relieved we didn’t order them, as I definitely would have sent them back to the kitchen. 2. Professionalism in Staff Management & Training. A man in a black uniform near the hot food pass—who appeared to be part of the management team—was loudly demanding that a waitress report customer feedback to him. His voice was so loud that we could hear every word clearly from our table by the entrance. Internal training and staff evaluations should be handled discreetly. No customer wants to overhear staff being reprimanded or be made aware of internal communication issues while trying to enjoy a meal. 3. Attention to Detail & Cleanliness (Tableware and Restrooms). There were very noticeable water spots on the tableware. Additionally, the cleanliness of the restrooms needs immediate attention. High-end restaurants must maintain their facilities meticulously; the restroom should not look like it has been neglected all day the moment a guest walks in, especially regarding water stains around the sink area. If Haru aims to establish itself as a premium Japanese dining establishment, ensuring that all plates, glassware, and facilities are completely spotless is an absolute baseline. Please make sure everything is thoroughly wiped down, dried, and polished. A Special Mention. Lastly, I want to highly commend the Japanese waitress who served us. From start to finish, she was incredibly energetic, welcoming, and always wore a warm smile. Her exceptional service truly makes me want to return. I sincerely hope management appreciates and takes good care of the front-of-house staff—they are the face of your restaurant and the frontline of the customer experience, and their energy is vital. Best of luck to the team, keep fighting! Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
