Hawi Restaurant offers a delightful introduction to Ethiopian cuisine, and my first experience there was nothing short of remarkable. As soon as I stepped in, the inviting aroma of spices and cooked dishes wrapped around me, setting the stage for what was to come. I opted for the Chef Special, Derek Tibs, accompanied by Shiro, Keysir, and Gomen. Each dish was a celebration of flavors and textures. The Derek Tibs was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, providing a savory bite that paired beautifully with the other sides. The Shiro, a chickpea stew, was rich and creamy, while the Keysir, a refreshing beet salad, added a vibrant touch to the meal. Gomen, the sautéed greens, offered a nutritious balance that rounded out the plate. One of the highlights of my meal was the teff injera bread. Not only was it deliciously tangy, but the health benefits of teff are phenomenal, making every bite feel both indulgent and wholesome. I truly enjoyed eating with my fingers, embracing the traditional Ethiopian dining experience, which added a fun and intimate touch to the meal. Overall, my visit to Hawi Restaurant was an unforgettable culinary journey. The combination of enticing aromas, delectable dishes, and the opportunity to enjoy an authentic dining experience made it a night to remember. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the rich flavors of Ethiopian cuisine! We were there on Sunday afternoon in August. They are currently seem to short in staffs. I will recommend to take this as precaution and give your self time to “wait” but not to avoid as definitely recommend this place! The server did his best to take care of a few tables. However, it took around 45min for the food to come out, and I think they short of staff in the kitchen as well. We ordered the combo and it’s delicious! No regrets and we feel that it worth the wait.
