I usually go to Benihana's for my birthday; It's been a tradition for over 10+ years, and I have gone even when I moved to Texas. But in El Paso there isn't a Benihana's, there's better, and it's called Hayashi Hibachi. I suggested that we go here because we had a group of 6 and I really wanted to celebrate my birthday with all of them. I think it's better in three ways: the service, the prices, and the spacing. I think because it really isn't a chain. It's more personalized and our chef really looked fresh, and a lot of the tricks he did were new to me, and he didn't seem like he was memorizing and practicing lines. The prices are incredible, especially with how much food you actually get. With hibachi, I normally don't get filet mignon and I get just the regular steak because the way they cook it so quickly. I like my steak medium rare. It's perfectly tender and I think that the regular steak has more flavor than filet mignon. They also have scallops as an option which is really nice and I wish I got that instead of the shrimp since it was a little rubbery. The spacing was really nice in this restaurant just because it's bigger. There's a lot more room. I didn't feel like I was shoved into small spaces where i couldn't even lean back or get out of my chair to go to the restroom like in all the other Benihana's have been to. They cram eight tables full of 10 adults into very small rooms in order to maximize profit and when you hear the happy birthday song soon over and over and over again right next to your ear. It becomes less special and I guess I'm just a little bit more jaded. The only thing I didn't understand was the forced waiting for the entire party to be seated. The lobby felt like a cattle call with all the bodies there pressed together and honestly they would have made more money seating us so that we can order appetizers and drinks. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience here. The food was on point and the value is tremendous for what you get. I highly recommend it for big groups or even for a working lunch.
