“One of the best options to eat in San Miguel de Allende” I have nothing but congratulations for the chef and the staff. It's been a while since I've had such delicious and creative food. I highly recommend the shrimp with goat cheese and bacon garnished with sweet potato and Jicama salad. What a delight indeed! It is simply a feast for your palate. Likewise, the mixed shrimp dish was an excellent option. The service was fast and the ingredients immediately seemed fresh and cared for down to the smallest detail. Perhaps the following will provide the incentive for you to try Hecho En Mexico: * An American raised in Mexico was on my flight south. He was returning to visit his parents who still live there and told me they'd be dining that evening at Hecho En Mexico (HEM); * On the short list of restaurant recommendations compiled by my airbnb host, an expat, HEM was listed; and * I ate there twice during a 7 day visit to San Miguel de Allende. Undeniably, there's something about HEM that appeals to those not hailing from Mexico. Jumbo-sized portions are likely part of it, but there's more to it than that. At lunch, the restaurant's courtyard was open to the sky and an interior cactus garden had hummingbirds flitting in and out. Chips and salsa are provided here, and the menu consists of a lot of familiar things including meal-sized salads that appeal to those hailing from California (as a tourist, the decision of whether or not to eat raw vegetables in MX is your call). On both a lunch and dinner visit I departed with leftovers ample enough to easily comprise another meal. I returned to HEM a second time not because I was wowed by anything I sampled here but the expansive menu and pleasant courtyard ambiance (definitely sit here) were enough to warrant a return. When traveling, sometimes one desires a place that feels like home and though this isn't quite that, it somehow came closer than anyplace else I dined at in San Miguel.
