I don't understand why they advertise themselves as "Mexican food." It clearly isn't. Enchiladas with flour tortillas, spinach, and corn? You'd never find that in Mexico. Don't mislead people; this is American food trying to cash in on the Latino market. Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

We’re sorry Heron wasn’t what you expected. Our menu is Mexican and Latin inspired, and we don’t claim that every dish is a traditional regional Mexican recipe. We take inspiration from Mexican ingredients, flavours and techniques while creating our own dishes. Just to clarify, there’s no spinach in our enchiladas, although now you’ve mentioned it, maybe we’ll give it a try We’re very open about our approach and certainly aren’t trying to mislead anyone or “cash in” on a culture. We completely understand if you prefer strictly traditional Mexican food, but that simply isn’t what Heron is.

To owners reply: I understand not every review will be positive, just as not every dining experience will be. My review reflected our honest experience that evening, and I hope the feedback is helpful. Original Review:. My husband and I came here for a Friday night date night (around 7:30–8:00 p.m.) and unfortunately left feeling pretty underwhelmed. The first thing that stood out was that the restaurant was completely empty during what should be prime dinner service. Considering the restaurant rebranded only a few months ago, it didn't inspire much confidence and made the atmosphere feel flat rather than lively. I'm honestly surprised by the high ratings because our experience didn't reflect them. We started with the ceviche, which lacked the bright acidity and freshness you'd expect. We also ordered two different tacos, which were fine but nothing particularly memorable. Dessert was the flan, which was much denser than it should have been. The staff were friendly throughout the evening, but the food also took a while to come out, which was confusing given how quiet the restaurant was. For two people, the bill came to about $170, and we left feeling like the experience didn't come close to justifying the price. The music was probably the highlight of the evening. Unfortunately, the space itself feels like a missed opportunity. The décor is clean but generic—very much a beige-and-sage Pinterest aesthetic that lacks warmth, character, or any sense of personality. For a Mexican restaurant, it felt surprisingly devoid of soul. Overall, we really wanted to like Heron, but between the underwhelming food, lack of atmosphere, and high price point, it's not somewhere we'd be eager to return. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Price per person: $80–90

Response to Margaryta - It absolutely is, and I also believe I should be able to share our side of the experience.A little advice for next time - bring these concerns up with your server while you are there. They genuinely want to fix things and make sure you leave happy, so it will benefit everyone. Also, you have forced me to finally decide what to do with the wall behind the cactuses, so thank you for that ***********Hi Margaryta,The dining room was quiet when you arrived because most guests were seated on the patio, which was full when you initially asked to sit there. It was also a long weekend, and all of our restaurants were quieter than usual. For context, your bill consisted of four dishes and 4 cocktails and came to $155. I am sorry you did not feel the meal justified the price, but our prices reflect the ingredients, labour, and costs involved in running a restaurant. We do, unfortunately, have to charge for the food.Taste and décor are subjective, so I will not argue with you about whether the ceviche was acidic enough or whether beige has a soul. I am glad you found the staff friendly and enjoyed the music. I will pass your comments on to our chef and will review the wait time as the food should not have taken that long regardless of how busy it was.
