We've eaten at Highway Inn Waipahu a few times and also at the Kaka`ako location a couple of times.  We flew in at night for an overnight trip and stopped at Highway Inn on the way to our hotel.  It was about half an hour before closing so we were seated fairly quickly.  We ordered the Plantation Mixed Plate and Super Combo with Beef Stew and Pipikaula.  The Plantation Mixed Plate is pulehu ribs, grilled chicken, and panko crusted fish.  Everything was delicious, especially the grilled chicken, which was very tender and had a nice sweet soy sauce on it.  The pulehu ribs were tender, but since I was also eating the pipikaula, the flavor seemed muted, which is understandable because I think it's only seasoned with sea salt.  My wife loves the beef stew and always orders it when we dine at Highway Inn, whether at the Waipahu location or Kakaako location.  Service was friendly and free parking since we weren't there for too long.  We'll definitely be back.
It's been awhile since I had Hawaiian Food. I think the last time was in a Luau at Paradise Cove which was a couple of months back. It was around 12:30pm when we got there. We wrote down our names on the wait list and after 10 minutes, we got seated. That place was really busy even though they have many tables and chairs. I ordered their Signature Kalua Pork Hawaiian Plate and my husband ordered their mini Smoked Moco. (I was supposed to order their Breakfast plates but they only serve their Breakfast Menu 8:30am-11am only. Sad) We waited for 15-20 minutes before we got our orders. Signature Kalua Pork Hawaiian Plate - I love the smokey, juicy and tasty flavor of Kalua Pork. It's delicious but not the best Kalua pork I tasted so far. It's perfect to eat with the Lomi Salmon although the Lomi Salmon was a little bit salty for me. I sub Poi for rice btw. New found favorite: I enjoyed eating Kalua Pork with Steamed Potato. Their Haupia was very delightful too!!! Smoked Moco - I love the combination of the smoked pork, bellpeppers, onions, smoked aioli. Sweet, creamy and savory.. not to mention the different textures of food - tender, crunch and saucy. Their mini bowl is enough for both of us.. ( I know, we share food because He doesn't have a choice! haha). I feel like the smoked aioli made the dish more "oily" but still, it's a good meal! Overall, I love it! I wanna try more of their dishes especially their Breakfast Menu. By the way, A huge shout out to Dan O. for recommending this place!
Highway Inn gives you the opportunity to showcase Hawaiian food to family and friends. I always leave with a full stomach. Huge fan of the Highway Inn Fried Rice, the ribs or Kalua Pork. They serve local beer and unique cocktails. I think my favorite thing about Highway Inn was the art on display as soon as you walk into the restaurant. Additionally, all the information on the menu and the history of Hawaiian cuisine. My friends Sunil and Jessy loved the food and overall experience. Shoutout to the waitress who took the time to breakdown the menu since it was their first time. I wish I remembered her name.
