The Hippo Café is a little slice of heaven in Hutto, Texas. A friend brought me here for breakfast on 4/12/24. The first thing you see is a lovely display of desserts upon entry. We were seated and served by Danielle. She was friendly and provided thoughtful advice and service . Their menu offers up breakfast lunch, and dinner with more than enough options. The portions are huge and beautifully plated.When my chicken fried steak arrived,It was a serving for 2 , which equals three for me this meal will literally be my breakfast lunch and dinner and I am happy for it. Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The place was not full. We needed a table for 7 [any smart person would know to combine 2 of the 8 available tables ]. We waited and waited. Manager just stands there. After 10 minutes he says, you all can just go outside, we will call you when ready. Everyone just standing around. After another party just sat themselves down [we had already asked if we could just sit ourselves] and were handed menus, we decided to leave. We found a very clean and great place, with friendly owner and staff, to eat not far.

I usually don't leave reviews, but I might save somebody from getting sick! We came through Hutto on Aug 6 - 21. We looked them up and Google and it looked fabulous. My husband had the fish, and I had the chicken strips with 1 piece of fish. The fish was awesome! The chicken strips the worst I've ever had. The outside was burned the inside crust was wet and gummy, but most of all the chicken wasn't done. One end was huge the other small. I cut off the small ends and that's what I ate. We had a side of onion rings which were burnt also. I don't know if there regular cook was off or what, but if u eat here order fish only! BTW, the little machine the waitress has gives her a tip, so if u get bad service like we had u have to ask for it to be removed. I didn't know this till it cleared my bank. I called and the manager did take that off.
