Hitsujiya in Funabashi is a small counter-only spot that specializes in fresh lamb cooked right in front of you — by you. Every seat has its own tabletop grill, and that’s part of the fun. You get your cut of meat, your pile of garlic, and you take charge. The highlight is the Ayers Rock–style lamb — a thick, juicy slab that you grill yourself until it’s smoky and sizzling. Add plenty of garlic, crack open a lemon sour, and you’ve basically got the perfect primal combo. It gets hot inside from all the tabletop grills going at once, but that just adds to the atmosphere — loud, smoky, full of energy and the smell of grilled lamb. You’ll want to book ahead, since it’s all counter seating and fills up fast. If you love bold flavors, hands-on cooking, and a bit of chaos with your meal, Hitsujiya is exactly where you want to be.
