We paid a rather high price for dining off-season, in what was an empty restaurant. A shared meal of esquité, taco trio and birria turned into food poisoning and my friend and I are still living the effects of it now, even 72 hours later. Just a cautionary dining tale for foodies. For what it’s worth, the Cynar cocktail was delicious. Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $500–600

There are many exceptional restaurants in Mérida, but Holoch stands above them. The atmosphere is set in a rustic outdoor courtyard laden with vines and plants. The food is exceptional; the floor profiles are perfectly balanced and interesting enough to keep you engaged. The staff are wonderful. A big shout out to Adriel who made our two visits here wonderful with his knowledge of food and sense of humour. Thanks Adriel! Price per person: $500–600 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
