Aguachile verde was tasty but didn’t rate the cauliflower or marlin tacos .. & it all felt a bit over fried and heavy - nothing like authentic Mexican taqueria Palomas were unavailable at happy hour as the gas was out ! The biggest let down was being served tacos without salsa then asking for salsa and being given valentina (a bottled sauce which is meant to be put on botanas like popcorn or chips(crisps). Artificial lime juice in the chelada was also painful. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I should have been more skeptical about a place that tries to do too many different styles of food that wouldn’t be seen on the same menu in México but we decided to try it and left disappointed. I remember coming here a couple years ago and not having the best experience. However I recently decided to return and give it another go after I heard they’d done a renovation and I think changed ownership too? Anyway, I had a fabulous experience. We hadn’t booked so we sat at the bar which I really enjoyed. The bar tender was so attentive and recommend us some delicious drinks. I had the Mezcalita which was basically a margarita but with Mezcal instead of tequila. Loved it! My friend and I also ordered some tacos to share. I honestly didn’t care about the wait time of the food but supposedly the bar tender was concerned it took too long so he gave us free chips and Guacamole as well as 2 free shots. It was so nice of him, and it really did elevate our experience at Hotel Jesus! Can’t wait to return.
