Anyway, atmosphere, ambience and temperature was great and what you'd expect in a good hotel setting. We were escorted to our table, but were not given a menu after being seated. I had to ask a passing waitress for menus.
After ordering mains, desserts and a jug of soft drink we waited abt 40 minutes for our mains. It was a very busy night.
I had a signature parma - Mexicana - with salad and straight cut chips; while my partner chose porterhouse steak. Was excited after reading the menu - parma topped with con-carne, guac, cheese and corn chips.
My parma presemted well, however the chicken was char grilled, burned at the edges so heavily that it was a hard crust that was hard to cut (as shown in photos). Completely dry - no moisture in the chicken at all - and cold. The "con-carne" was a couple of beans and the flavour was mainly guac and cheesy. Not too bad (coz I luv my avo and cheese) but nothing special. I'll try this dish at home myself some time. Great idea but very poor delivery.
Salad was regular garden and didn't taste as though it had a dressing. Chips were okay, but were soggy and cold. Nothing beyond very ordinary. Overall, the worst parma I've ever had - and like most I've had dozens over the years at numerous venues. $29 not well spent.
My partner's porterhouse looked unappetising (looked burned as per photo) and was exactly that. Entirely bland - seemed as though they hadn't used any salt in the cooking to draw out the flavour. No smokiness or grilled flavour. Verrryy ordinary. Andnwhile she had ordered medium it was closer to rare, with the meat almost entirely red and bloodied. We were loathe to ask for a recook bcoz of how packed and busy they were.
But what also surprised us was the mushroom sauce we bought as an extra was also bland and did nothing to lift the flavour of the meal. Seemed to lack creaminess - as if made with water as a base. Again, overall, my partner said it was the worst porterhouse she had eaten and that Hogs Steakhouse was much better. I totally agree! A waste of $34.
Dessert for my partner was banana split - arrived at the table so early that the ice-cream had all but melted by the time she had finished her main. And the ice-cream was cheap and nasty... tasted like a poor home brand.
My cream filled caramel conoli was eell presented.... had crisy pastry but again was bland, the creamy filling was okay but had no punch. The warm chocolate sauce that came in a small pouring jug was better not used - runny and a cheap and nasty flavpur that detracted from the dessert.
Overall a great hotel atmosphere, lovely staff who were simply run off their feet, and a very busy night for the cooks. Nevertheless, our mains and desserts were among the very worst of all of the hotel meals I have eaten - and at the endnof the day that's what really matters.
I will not be giving this hotel bistro a second chance. Only uphill from here.
