An absolute smorgasbord of pinball and arcade games. Getting your food order called out is as fun as the games.

Very cool place.. I remember the 1980's when Ottawa was filled to the brim with arcades. Bank Street alone had 7 of them from Queen Street to Alta Vista Drive. Byward Market had another 4. Sadly, arcades have gone the way of the Dodo bird unless you count those overpriced video games displays at your Cineplex. Leave it to House Of Targ to bring the 1980's back but also bring us some of the current decade with it.

House of Targ (Targ is a old arcade game from Exidy where you try to shoot cars in a grid) is an arcade through and through. They have classic arcade games from the 1980's and 1990's on one side and classic and newer pinball tables on the other. Games for the most part work well and I finished Double Dragon on one quarter and got the high score on several other games. Pinball, I'm pretty raw but $2 for 3 plays is a good price.

Thankfully, you won't hear any of Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lorde, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Kesha or One Direction's horrendously bad music while you play, just classic rock 'n roll from the 1960-90 era. They also have live bands and you're forced to pay $5 at the door if one is playing but at least they don't force you to buy a drink like they do at the slimy gentlemen's clubs that should be shuttered permanently here.

The only other weakness, like someone else mentioned, is that it is hot in there. I had a coat on and I sweated pretty good so leave the coat in the car. The crowd they had Friday night was pretty cool and very well-behaved.

I'm not a perogies fan but I will probably try them someday. All vegetarian according to the menu, good for me as I'm reducing my meat intake. They have some guy impersonating Wolfman Jack telling you that they are ready. Funny stuff.

I'll be back next week as I still have some quarters and pinball machines to play. Maybe the arcade is going to make a comeback...
