Tried the new Houston Inn tonight. The outside and interior look great, and we were seated near the bar where they had live music. Our waitress was good, although pretty busy. Unfortunately, no sweet tea. The bread was grilled rye with no butter—not sure if that’s how it’s served or if the butter was forgotten. All three of us ordered the 8 oz. filet medium rare. They were slightly undercooked and had basically no seasoning, but the quality of the steaks was excellent. They practically melted in your mouth—really great cuts of meat that just needed some seasoning. I had the loaded baked potato, which was pretty flavorless. My wife got the sweet potatoes, and those were fantastic. Our son had the mac and cheese, which wasn’t very cheesy and had a strong fake-bacon taste. I’m glad to see the Houston Inn back open, and they definitely seemed busy when we left. The place looks great and the steaks were quality cuts, but unfortunately the food overall just didn’t hit the mark for us. I don’t think we’ll be back. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: $60–70
