Loved the beef burger and chips! Highly recommend! I would recommend going when their entertainment is on and enjoy a fun night out.

Went for dinner on a Thursday night.

The signage at the door is quite off-putting as it makes a big deal about about being a member before entry but when I rang up, they said anyone could patronise the restaurant (which tallies with what I'd heard earlier).

apparently they put on a carvery meal every nite so we tried that. Non-members pay an additional $2 above the posted price meaning $17 for a small. the veges are self serve.

in honesty, the meal was... somewhat lacklustre compared to other offerings. By that I mean, a Roast Shop will serve a larger meal for less money.

Price point aside, the food was edible and staff friendly. Would I consider returning? Yeeeesss but perhaps with lower expectations.

This is my first experience at Howick RSA (aka Stockades Restaurant). We just walked in & found that the huge eating area was already 60% full at 6:00 on Saturday evening. We seated ourselves, chose the meals we liked, & paid at the counter. I had a carvery & was given a plate for roasted pork and/or beef; then picked up my self-service sides from the salad bar. My wife ordered chicken liver parfait with garlic toasts and fish & chips which were delivered to the table. Fish was fresh & nicely cooked; carvery was tough & dry; liver parfait was coarse. Anyway, for a casual cafe dinner, I couldn't demand too much. (Food - 3/5; Ambience - 3/5)
