Wow! What a find! Having lived in Garland for 30 years now, I'm embarrassed to admit I just discovered this jewel of a café/diner! After driving around for an hour looking for a good breakfast/lunch place that wasn't crowded (IHOP, Waffle House, Ballard Street Café) we ended up just asking Siri to find a "diner" nearby and she suggested Hubbard's Cubbard in downtown old Garland. We called and was told there was no wait and no crowd. So we headed on over. Arriving at 1:00pm we were delighted to find that they serve breakfast all day - but that they close at 1:30pm on weekends right now. We apologized for the late arrival and were told it was absolutely no problem. What we soon found out was that we had just stumbled into our new favorite diner, especially for breakfast at linch time! My husband ordered the breakfast sampler and I had the pork chop with hashbrowns, eggs, grits and we both had a side of biscuits and gravy. We also had coffee that just kept coming. Honestly, this was WAY too much food and we ended up taking half of it home. The eggs were cooked to perfection! The pork chop was offered fried or grilled, based on your preference. The biscuits were as big as can be and everything was delicious! They don't really season the food much but place salt and pepper on the table for you to add to your taste. They also offer a few choices of hot sauce. All in all, the staff was super friendly and attentive and never once rushed us out. The food was WAY better than "good" - it was outstanding! I'm almost hesitant to post this review for fear that it will bring the crowds, but they need the business in these hard times and I will definitely be back here soon! Update 01/13/2022 - Told you I'd be back! Came in around 11:30am for lunch although we ordered breakfast food anyway. Everything was still great - except for the biscuits with sausage gravy. My husband thought it tasted "off" and after tasting it myself I realized it was actually the sausage. I'm not sure what kind they use but this tasted to me like sausage from a male pig. It had the strong "gamey" taste resulting from the high testosterone in a boar pig. So it was not "off" but was not to our liking. So sausage lovers just beware and honestly if you don't like it, I'm sure they would do whatever it took to make things right. We didn't complain and just noted it for the future. Still, this is an awesome local diner.
