We heard about this place.specificalku for their Sunday roast dinners and we were not disappointed. We opted for the "famous nut roast" (there are approximately 5 options of main protein to choose from including a "beef" wellington, sausage plaits, a "steak" and ale pie and a few others) which was slightly sweet but also nutty and Herby. The gravy was thick and I believe there was a red wine reduction within. The roast potatoes were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The carrot and parsnip were glazed and incredibly good. The Yorkshire puddings which for me are the piece de resistance in a roast were comfortably the best part and I would go so far as to say the best Yorkshire puddings I have ever had (I ordered an extra for an extra £2.50): they were crispy all over on the outside and creamy and fluffy inside without even a hint of oil or grease. The only aspects of the roast that could be improved upon for me was that the red cabbage was pickled, however my wife liked this aspect so perhaps it is down to personal preference. Theeal was also served with a separate side of cauliflower cheese which I was not anticipating. Please bear in mind that I am (or was) the ultimate sceptic of this dish generally but I tried this one and was blown away by how flavoursome and genuinely cheesy the sauce was. It is legitimately incredible: so rich and creamy and cheesy. For dessert we opted for the deep dish apple pie with homemade custard, and the warm fudge cake with vanilla ice cream. The apple pie was deliciously flavoursome and the custard was creamy and vanilla-heavy. The fudge cake was gloriously decadent, thick, moist, and melt-in-the-mouth, contrasted by the scoop of vanilla-heavy creamy ice cream. Drinks-wise we opted for the honeycomb milkshake which was novel, thick, and like the inside of a Crunchie-bar made liquid. My wife had the affrogato which was comprised of very strong bitter espresso contrasted by the sweetness of the cream and ice cream. Everything was piping hot, the service was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the space was beautifully understatedly decorated and cool. Parking-wise the Co-op adjacent allows 2 hours free parking. The menu is legitimately immense in terms of options and we will most definitely visit again to try more of their deliciousness. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £30–40 Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian Vegetarian options: Whole menu is vegan
