It was my first visit, and the space was hopping with the upbeat, buzzy energy of happy Saturday evening diners enjoying the comforts of well-prepared classic Italian dishes. The staff were skilled professionals, working well together to deftly and efficiently handle the Saturday evening crowd, while also being warm, engaging, and personable. I ordered the shrimp fra diavolo and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and preparation of the shrimp - an easy thing to miss on - and the sauce was well seasoned and absolutely delicious. The post-meal cheesecake continued the demonstration of thoughtfully prepared food made by people who clearly take pride in their work. This surprising gem sits In the back corner of an otherwise unassuming strip mall on the outskirts of downtown Cranford, but its vibrance and dignity easily transcend its humble location. I'm thrilled to have found this place so close to home. Looking forward to returning again and again to try all the dishes on the extensive menu! Not sure why I had never visited IL Gabbiano Restaurant before I had heard about it but never really went. Today was my first time and I regret not going before! The food is amazing, I mean it is delicious. Huge portions. The staff was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Another great thing BYOB. Outside sitting was nice, spacious and shaded. Great live music. I highly recommend this place to anyone that's looking for a great family restaurant or romantic night out in town with the wife.
