It was a new and very special experience. I visited the home restaurant without knowing exactly what the system was, but I was very satisfied and it was the most special dinner I remember during my trip to Sicily. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Ragusa. Needless to say, the food was great. If I get the chance, I definitely want to go again. I will cherish everyone I met that day. We had an unforgettable evening at Il Balcone sulla Vallata, hosted by the wonderful Alessandro and Vania. While home restaurants aren’t yet common, having experienced one in Singapore, we were eager to try Sicilian home cooking with a personal twist—and we were absolutely delighted. Alessandro and Vania make a perfect team. The combination of Alessandro's exceptional culinary skills and their shared warmth created an experience beyond comparison. From the moment our special booking was confirmed to the final after-dinner stories, every moment was filled with joy and authenticity. For a few hours, we forgot we were tourists in Ragusa. It felt as though we were dining with dear friends, completely at ease. Alessandro's cooking? A solid 10/10. Their hospitality? An extraordinary 101/10! The dinner at Alessandro & Vanja was excellent. There were six courses, with your own wishes taken into account. The meal takes place in the couple's very stylishly furnished apartment in Ragusa. You could choose between a fish and a meat menu. We took the fish menu and were thrilled. In addition to the great tasting food, the hospitality is particularly noteworthy.
