Recently we thought we would introduce some of our friends to “Il fornello”, which until now was known to us for its nice and cozy atmosphere and hospitality. We took the antipasto and it turned out that the grilled eggplant was still partly frozen. The olives are anything but what you would expect from an Italian. Then came the pastas and pizzas. The pizzas are tasty as are the pastas. The portions are very generous. However, the pasta carbonara is by no means what it should be and is more like over-fried scrambled eggs with dry pasta and bacon. One of the employees was very stressed, despite the small size of the business, and at the end of the evening she looked us out the door so that we could leave for home as quickly as possible (an hour before the official closing time). Furthermore, the entrance door to the business was kept open all the time by the staff. This while it was -2 degrees outside. At times we had to wear our coats inside to protect against the cold.
