Not only should Monterey Bay Aquarium be visited, but also il vecchio. This bar is famous for providing Italian cuisine. Cooks at il vecchio do their best to provide guests with good spaghetti carbonara, chicken marsala and beet salads. Here you will be offered nicely cooked Italian gelato, chocolate cannoli and parfait. It might be cool to enjoy delicious marsala, beer or limoncello. You will be offered great espresso, lemonade or ice tea.
A homely atmosphere and beautiful interior make this place so good. Most reviewers consider the staff pleasant. Service at this spot is something one can name terrific. From the guests' point of view, prices are reasonable. Google users awarded this bar 4.5.

This place was a solid spot in Monterey! I can't believe I forgot I came here 10 years ago and when we stepped foot into the restaurant, it brought back all these delicious memories. This place was rec'd to us by a local winery down in Carmel and they recommended us to make reservations. They were able to do same-day reservations and luckily, we had a chance to try their pastas! The ambiance itself was really romantic and it was a full house on a Friday night. I love that it is located right near all the other shops in Monterey, so it is easy to get around and wander about. I loved their pasta dishes and will definitely keep this in mind again when we make our way out here again.

The tall elderly gentleman who owns the restaurant kindly invited me in to have dinner as he opened up the Il Vecchio restaurant for dinner service at 5pm on a Monday night. The atmosphere was relaxed as the kindly owner asked if everyone’s meals were ok at each table and he’d also strike up some interesting stories and answer questions about the menu. I started with some delicious Italian Barbera wine and had as an appetizer some delicious burrata with basil, tomato and Buffalo mozzarella cheese. Also there was fresh artisan bread and a little plate of olive oil with balsamic vinegar to dip the bread in. The black pepper on the table was so fresh. I put some black pepper in the olive oil and balsamic vinegar too. The main dish I had was so very delicious. It was wild caught Rockfish grilled to perfection that was topped with a creamy fresh pesto sauce. There was also yellow rice and grilled vegetables on the side. For dessert, I had the Umbria gelato that had vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and hazel nuts and sea salt caramel. I also had a caffe corretto with Sambuca. It’s hot coffee made with usually grappa or brandy or Sambuca. The service was excellent throughout the meal. Laura the waitress from Italy was really adorable and kind and helpful.
