Sad news: Independent Brewing has announced its permanent closing, in a Facebook posting dated July 4, 2020. Yet another COVID-19 casualty.

I used to be a regular here for three plus years. It was the beginning of my introduction to craft beer. Over the years I sampled a number of thoughtfully brewed gems such as Flytrap, Battlestar Galacticagog, Sticky Zipper, Impact Crater, and C Monkey (sadly never to be brewed again). As time marched forward, the quality diminished but now an imperial pint is $9!! Yes, expensive and sub par at that. I thought...perhaps a rough patch that will be addressed and corrected? Alas, no. Now the writing is on the wall as devotees of their once fine craft beer have left, never to return, contributing to lagging sales. It's a shame, as Independent Brewing Company was a place like no other in Oakland with it being off the beaten path, cool inside, outdoor seating, staffed by friendly folk, and often frequented by locals such as myself. A place to go for both quiet contemplation and socializing. Soon it will be no more. Goodbye IBC.
