For a friends gathering I wanted to find a comfortable and also tasty restaurant to enjoy since we are all foodies. We ended up booking JA Kitchen after a friend recommended it to us. The first impression upon entering was the restaurant was very relaxing and gave off chill vibes. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. They took their time introducing and explaining each dish we had and pointed out what made their dishes different from others. After some chit chat with the staff, we found out the head chef was a chef at the Japanese restaurant at the Shangri-la hotel for over 20 years. This was certainly reflected in his passion when explaining in detail how he prepared each dish and how he tried to made it different from what could be tasted at other establishments. He shared with us the various skills and techniques a chef uses to enhance an ingredient. This was indeed eye opening to learn while we tasted the food. This was especially apparent when we tasted the uni. Perhaps my experience is not a lot but over the years I have always thought that uni would have a slightly fishy undertone to it but that night I was able to taste something absolutely fresh and not tasty at all. Also another key point was that he mentioned that even the paired seaweed could make a difference to its flavor. Another dish that really elevated my experience there was the shrimp. It was something I had never tried before, it molded freshness and the floral wine taste so well that I was only wishing I could have more of it. Every dish we tasted that evening was above expectation and combined new and traditional flavors so well. I really recommend everyone to go try themselves. With regards to the price it was very acceptable as they were delivering 5 star hotel restaurant food quality and service at a very acceptable price. If you want to have the same experience and food quality, the price would be much higher if you find something similar in Tsim Sha Tsui or island side. If you're not looking for a fine dining and luxurious experience but want a place to gather with friends to enjoy the same 5 star experience at a relaxing restaurant, JA Kitchen is certainly the place for you. It is a place perfect for friend gatherings, a date night or even to take clients to for business meetings without breaking the bank.
