I found this place because of yelp, so I find it fitting to place a review on yelp. I've eaten here twice now in the last two weeks and both times of been very happy. It is definitely not a place that you would find as it is off the beaten path. It is a local sandwich shop that serves burgers sandwiches and salads. When you walk in looks can be deceiving, the food is great and you get a lot of food for the money!
The reason you've never heard of Jokers Alley is because they are located in a warehouse district tucked in behind Hardee's on Baymeadows. Its a very strange location. The reason you should know about this place is because the food is 5 star, the prices are very reasonable, and the variety is out of this world. First of all, Jokers Alley has better hamburgers than Five Guys, or any of the fast food variety you will find. The fries are perfectly crisped and seasoned, and there is unlimited ketchup on your table, and there are about 10 tables here but everybody I've ever seen there gets takeout. They also have great cheesesteaks in a city that is totally barren of decent cheesesteaks, and the Bourbon Chicken Salad is fantastic. Hours are 7:00AM to 3:00PM only {check that, they shut down the grill at 2:00 and only have salads and cold sandwiches till 3:00}, M-F. If you call them they will fax or email you a menu, and I suggest you call ahead cause there is always a crowd, and it starts around 11:00 for lunch. If you are looking for someplace local and totally unique on the Southside give these guys a shot, you wont be disappointed. HOWEVER, damn I hate to report this because this is seriously one of my top 3 spots in town for lunch, but I went for breakfast this morning, and not only was the place empty, but no one but me came in for a 35 minute duration. And yes, there is a reason for that. Breakfast is terrible, they cant even cook eggs and the sausage looked like something you would be served in county jail. But it IS a bargain, just not enough of a bargain to tempt anybody to stop in for a bite. BTW, the coffee is very very good but it doesn't make up for the extra well done fried eggs on my plate or the soy patties they try to pass for sausage. Don't let that dissuade you for lunch, sandwiches and salads is where they really shine.
