After a long drive from Toyohashi to Nagoya, we were craving something familiar — and after some searching, we found Jules Bistro, a cozy spot that offers French cuisine made with Canadian ingredients. It felt like a hidden gem in the middle of Nagoya. We were warmly greeted by the staff and the owner, Kei-san, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He walked us through the daily specials and made us feel right at home. Best part? He speaks English, which made ordering a whole lot easier. We started off with the poutine — freshly made, with just the right thickness in the gravy and perfectly melted cheese. Everything was well balanced, and we could’ve easily gone for another plate. As part of the set that came with the Canadian Alberta ribeye, we were treated to a trio of starters — salmon tartare, a cold cut and cheese board, and a seafood appetizer. The first dish that came out was the salmon tartare. Very fresh, well seasoned, and served with thin-sliced baguette. You spread it on like butter — light, clean, and the perfect way to kick off the meal. Next was the cold cut and cheese board — a solid variety of textures and flavours, paired nicely with the fresh bread. A nice touch that gave a cozy, homey feel to the whole experience. Then came the seafood appetizer, which included prawns, octopus, and scallops, plated with mixed greens and more fresh bread. The octopus was especially memorable — not chewy at all, extremely tender with a subtle char that added great depth. The prawns were cooked so well that even the shell had softened, letting the sauce soak right through to the meat. And the sautéed scallop on toast? Cooked just right, buttery, and absolutely delicious. For our first main, we had the sautéed chicken in mushroom sauce — moist, tender, and packed with flavour. I had to ask for bread just to clean the plate. That sauce was gold. Then came the Canadian Alberta ribeye. Cooked medium rare, with a nice pink center, thick, juicy, and full of flavour. Well seasoned, generous in portion — a rare find in Japan, where most beef is either Wagyu or sliced thin. If you’ve been missing a proper Western-style steak, this is the spot when you're in Nagoya. Overall, Jules Bistro delivered a comforting, flavourful experience with a touch of home. Great food, warm service, and thoughtful details from start to finish. We'll definitely be back.
