While the food and service was very good, I am giving this place 2 stars because of an unfortunate racist incident that involved our seating neighbors and how it was handled by the wait staff. We are an Asian American family touring Rome so we obviously stick out as sore thumbs here, because we're not white and we look like tourists and we know that. When we dined at KLU Pizza Club, it was very clear to me that upon being seated at the restaurant, our neighbors were laughing at us, and I assume this was meant to be a private incident between the two of them but I caught them in the act - clearly they were making fun of the fact that we're tourists or not white or both. I was upset for the rest of dinner and when we left, I angrily said something to the neighbors as I passed by their table. My mother then walked back in to confront them and the waiter, I suppose in an attempt to diffuse a possibly escalating situation, was defending the neighbors...saying that 'they didn't say anything'. I'm sure there might have been a language barrier during moments of tension (from us and from the locals), but that is not how I would have expected a restaurant employee to try to calm down a situation by defending those being accused of racism/rude behavior. I encourage the wait staff here to be more aware of context and the nuanced dynamics when people of color attempt to confront racism that is happening right before their eyes. I'll finish this post by again underscoring that the food and service was overall good. Our waiter was friendly to us and perhaps he just didn't have all the right context to handle the situation. I hope that we can all take this as a learning experience. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
