Went out to eat at Kabuki Japanese Steak House last evening and had one of the most deplorable meals and the very worst of service of any restaurant I have dined at for years. We were greeted upon arrival and should have been smart enough to leave at that point. The restaurant was packed and the manager was standing at the sushi bar yelling at the waitresses in Japanese. The couple behind us were taken to a table immediately and then we were taken to the back room which was totally packed. A very large party therefore the staff was overworked and running about like wild men and women. People were seated at all the tables together so I am not sure where the COVID restrictions were being taken seriously at this point. The group that we were seated with had been waiting for over an hour and there were only 3 adults with one child. The waitress was overwhelmed and scared to death of her manager. She did make a good effort but then we found ourselves waiting again for a good 30 min for the cook who arrived and was very pleasant but rushed through the delivery. Our rice was tasteless and the vegetables burnt although the soup and salad was ok. My filet was tough but cooked as ordered. Teriyaki sauce was splashed on everything and the fact that both myself and my guests were allergic to all seafood seemed to throw the waiter off when at the least all he needed to do was cook our steaks prior to cooking the seafood. But the best was yet to come when we received our bill for our less than satisfactory meal it was expensive and included a service charge for having our food cooked on the hibachi grill???? This was a Japanese Steak House right? I attempted to the very over his head manager and he quickly took the service charge off but said that was the price you paid for the cooking of your food on the grill. Please do yourselves a favor and visit one of the many other Japanese Steak Houses on the southside. I promise they are doing the very best they can during the pandemic but the food is much better served and service far superior to this experience and the owner is on scene, at least at the Kabutos on Midlothian. Never to return -- a very very unhappy Kabuki diner!
