Don’t let the outside fool you. As I walked up, I noticed the green smiling face of the health department’s approval hanging proudly in the window. Inside, I found one of the best meals I’ve had in quite some time. This being my first experience with Afghan cuisine, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I came prepared, having studied the menu online and researched a few dishes beforehand. After a brief conversation with a friendly gentleman—who I suspect was also the maestro responsible for the meal that followed—I ordered the manto and bolani. What flavor! The experience reminded me of the down-home cooking I grew up with in the Midwest and South. Comforting, hearty, and clearly made by someone who cares. Just substitute a few herbs and spices, and you’ll find a familiar spirit beneath the differences. Alas, I am now back home several hundred miles away, searching Google for Afghan restaurants closer to me that might live up to the standard set by Kabul Kabab. Outstanding Afghan food – a hidden gem! Kabul Kebabs is an absolute gem for authentic Afghan cuisine. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The kebabs were juicy, smoky, and beautifully seasoned—especially the chapli kebab and chicken kebabs, which were tender and incredibly satisfying. The fresh naan was soft, warm, and the perfect complement to the grilled meats. The bolani was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of flavor, and the green chutney and fresh onion sides tied everything together perfectly. You can truly taste the freshness and care in every bite. The atmosphere is simple and welcoming, and the food is clearly the star here. If you’re looking for authentic, flavorful Afghan kebabs made right, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended—I’ll definitely be back!
