The oldest izakaya in Japan 江戸時代から続く、現存する日本最古の居酒屋。 Kagiya in a residential area of Negishi. Kagiya is the oldest izakaya in Japan that has existed since the Edo period. It started as a liquor store in 1856, and from 1949 it became the current style of izakaya. The interior of the old house is full of signs and posters that make you feel the history. Drinks are beer and sake. You can ask for hot sake in the cold season. The specialty menu is Kurikara-yaki, a grilled eel skewer. Torimotsu(chicken liver) nabe, a winter limited menu, is also delicious. There isn't much snack menu, but it's necessary and sufficient. Due to its long history, women are accompanied by a male rule. Also note that the store closes early.
