On March 13, 2026, my family and I dined at Kalei's Maui (Lahaina location in the Cannery Mall) during our vacation. We were excited to try their Hawaiian plate lunches and local favorites. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the worst bouts of food poisoning I've ever had. Within hours of eating, I was hit with intense nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and crippling stomach cramps. I was completely unable to get out of bed for the next 48 hours — missing out on family time, activities, and basically the rest of our trip segment. This wasn't a minor stomach issue; it was debilitating and required me to stay in the hotel room the entire time while everyone else continued without me. No one else in my group was as severely affected, but given the timing and severity, I have to attribute it to something I ate here. I've dined at many places worldwide without anything close to this reaction. I truly hope the owners and staff prioritize food safety and look into any potential issues, as this kind of illness is dangerous — especially for families, kids, or anyone with health vulnerabilities. To future visitors: Maui vacations are special and expensive — think twice before eating here if foodborne illness is a concern for you. Your health and trip enjoyment come first.
